2009 MMOPA Convention a Big Success

The 2009 MMOPA Convention is now in the logbook and was a success by all measures. As testimony to the PA46 airframe's and community staying power this year's convention ignored the stumbling economy and exceeded attendance expectations. In spite of unseasonably cool Arizona temps (really folks it is usually 80 not 60 - sorry no refunds) a good time was had by all. New friends were made, safety was enhanced, relationships with vendor partners were furthered, and the organization continued to evolve in very positive fashion. Many first timers remarked at what a fantastic group we have the privilege of being part of.

As expected, there were many great training and safety presentations. Check the Resource section of the MMOPA website for copies of many of these sessions. Among the exceeded expectations was the attendance at the companion training flying sessions. Thanks to our fantastic instructor corps for taking good care of our loved ones (and our spouses too) and not making it seem too easy.

The leadership of our organization transitioned during the Members meeting held on Saturday. After four years of service Jim Yankaskas turned over the presidency to Jon Sisk - a long time MMOPA member and advocate who will serve us well. I and the rest of the board look forward to working with Jon in the years ahead.

Special thanks to Jim for carrying the mantle for two two-year terms. Doug Leet, Past President, transitioned off the board after many years of service. Jim and Doug leave a legacy of improved safety and a dramatically improved relationship with our primary partner, Piper. Outgoing BOD members are Doug Leet, Richard Geist, Don Lockard, and Randy James. New BOD members are Bart Bartlett, Eric Roehl, and Dick Rochfort. Current Director and Staff roster available here.
