This page serves as summary of all PA46-specific training events that are approved and endorsed by the MMOPA Safety Committee.
These courses also qualify as “supplemental training” for the Master Aviator Program.

2020 Convention & Fly-In
Sept 23-26
Tucson, AZ
Registration is now open for 30th Annual MMOPA’s Convention & Fly-In. Members can expect to learn, experience and enjoy four days of exciting training, seminars and social events all geared to increase our pilots’ safety acumen and knowledge about their aircraft.
On Wednesday, Sept. 23, MMOPA will hold its first-ever survival training course. Led by AirCare FACTS, members will gain essential water training, including raft deployment, water survival and underwater egress. Also, there will be sessions on hypoxia (using table-top hypoxia unit), and fatigue management. The add-on session will cost $495.
Also, on Wednesday, MMOPA will hold its annual charity golf tournament benefiting the MMOPA Safety & Education Foundation.
The educational sessions begin Thursday, Sept. 24 and will include:
- Master Aviator Awards
- Keynote by former Shuttle Commander Charlie Precourt
- M600SLS Autoland Insights (Spouses/Companions: Plan to Attend!)
- Manny Casiano’s Safety Review
- Weather planning
- Upset training & aerodynamics
- Single-Pilot decision-making
- Strategies for the Aging Pilot
- Insurance Panel
- Newbie & Experienced Owner break-out sessions
- Autopilot workshop break-outs

IMPORTANT: If you already registered for the May Convention and plan to attend the September event, you do not need to re-register. However, you do need to contact the Westin immediately to change your reservation.
If you registered and cannot attend the September event, please alert us of your cancellation ASAP and we will issue a refund. PayPal is waiving all service fees for cancellation transactions this month, so we would like to take care of those right away.

This is an entirely new take on the subject of hypoxia. Presenter Joe Casey will break down the physiology and effects of hypoxia using a visualization of a fictional manufacturing company. You will think about hypoxia in a completely new way after watching this session. The presentation will be followed by “ask Joe” Q&A session.

As airframe icing advisories morph into advisories for thunderstorms, it’s time to brush off the wintertime rust and focus on the threat of deep, moist convection. In this webinar you will learn a few tips on how to minimize your exposure to dangerous convective turbulence. We’ll end with a brief analysis of a fatal Piper PA46 crash in near Bishop, GA in early March. Presented by leading aviation weather expert Scott Dennstaedt will who is an active CFI, former NWS meteorologist and co-author of “Pilot Weather: From Solo to the Airlines.”

• Operational Practices Review and importance of stabilized approaches;
• Crosswind takeoffs and landings;
• High density altitude.

February 13-15, 2020
April 16-18, 2020

- Only in Vero Beach, FL and exclusively by John Mariani
- Life-saving training to improve your skills, knowledge, and judgment
- The ground training (8 hours, for all pilots) will be structured in 3 parts: a thorough review of 1 system of the airplane (3 hours, this will be changed every year, and will address all types of airplanes present); a thorough review of operational issues (3 hours, with different subject yearly, addressing structural limitations, system emergencies, weather, accident reviews, etc.) for all types of airplanes present; “Ask John” (2 hours where he answers all questions on any PA46 subject)
- The flight training with each pilot will be structured as follows: thorough preflight (and review of no-go items), emergencies, review, and emphasis of airplane limitations (and the consequences of exceeding them); instrument procedures (with emphasis on approaches)
- Qualifies as a supplemental training event for Master Aviator Program
When calling/emailing (email is preferred) to schedule, I will need the following information:
- Type/model year of PA46
- Installed avionics (including type of Autopilot
- Summary of pilot’s experience
- Preferred day for flight training (Thursday or Saturday)
- Preferred time for flight training (AM or PM)
I will also accept attendees for the ground school only (always held on the Friday of the Seminar).
