Survival Training – Thurs. Sept. 29 ($450 Per Person)

For the first time ever, MMOPA will offer a one-day training program featuring hands-on survival and safety training on Thursday.

The training will include ditching and water survival skills, hypoxia awareness training, and a session on fatigue mitigation. Companions participation encouraged – train as a team!

While the Friday night MMOPA member party will give you a small taste of the museum, we will return Sunday for an in-depth look at the museum’s priceless collection. The Pima Air & Space Museum is the largest privately funded aviation and aerospace museum in the world and the 3rd largest aviation museum in the United States. You’ll see aircraft you cannot see anywhere else like the Martin Mariner and the SR-71 while learning about history, engineering and space. This 45-minute guided tour will take you through the museum’s 80 acres on a 1.5 mile route to view more than 150 aircraft in the collection. The tour is narrated by experienced guides who highlight significant aircraft I the outdoor collection. It’s a great way to see the museum! Following the tram tour, you will have time to walk through the five hangars at your own pace.

Companion Tour – Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum ($55 Per Person)

Bus departs 8:00 am and returns to the hotel at noon.

Enjoy an unforgettable morning at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum with your fellow MMOPA companions. Comprised of an AZA-accredited zoo, extensive botanical garden, two art galleries, and a natural history museum, the Desert Museum sits on 98 acres of pristine desert landscape. The Museum showcases the diverse flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert region (with over 55,000 plants) featuring wildlife such as coyotes, javelinas, mountain lions, and bighorn sheep in naturalistic habitats. Our visit will be a self-guided tour of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum allowing you to explore this wonderful treasure at your own pace. The museum is The Desert Museum is a fusion experience of zoo, botanical garden, art gallery, natural history museum, and aquarium. First, visit the Orientation Ramada for some background on the Sonoran Desert region. Continue to the Mountain Woodland to visit the mountain lion and black bear, then the Desert Grassland to see the antics of the prairie dogs. Next stop, The Hummingbird Aviary, but on the way be sure to check out the Agave and Cactus Gardens to see an impressive variety of succulents and cacti. Finally, pick up a souvenir in the Mountain House Gift Shop and see the Warden Aquarium before you leave.
