PMOPA's West Coast Regional Event will be a unique, yet important and impactful safety event: a full-day Altitude Chamber Training

PMOPA will hold a private, members-only high altitude chamber hypoxia course at Arizona State University Polytechnic Campus's Del E. Webb facility in Mesa, AZ. This full one-day course  encompasses an aviation physiology ground lesson and chamber flight to 25,000ft. The flight includes a hypoxia demonstration at altitude, followed by a night hypoxia and visual acuity demonstration at 18,000ft, and concludes with a rapid decompression. Upon successful completion, all participants will receive a certificate of completion and/or training transcript (upon request). The training is WINGS credit eligible.

To attend, all participants must complete and submit a Medical Questionnaire and a Waiver, be in good health, possess an FAA first, second, or third class medical certificate and bring it with them to training. NOTE: Basic Meds are not accepted by Arizona State University for this course.

  • All participants must be age 18 or older
  • The course begins at 08:00 and concludes at approximately 17:00
  • No alcohol may be consumed within 12 hours of arriving for training
  • Strenuous physical activity is prohibited for 12 hours following the course
  • If arriving via private aircraft, please note that the cabin pressure must be at or below 10,000ft if you are departing immediately following the course. There are no restrictions after 12 hours.
  • If you are experiencing congestion, coughing, or fever within 14 days of training, please refrain from attending and call us to inquire about a later training date
  • Participation inside the chamber will not be permitted without a valid Class I, II, or III FAA medical certificate
  • All participants Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English per FAA rules and regulations
This program is limited to 12 registrants from the PMOPA membership.

Automobile Parking Instructions:

The chamber is located on the Arizona State University Polytechnic (east) campus at 7108 East Tiburon Avenue Mesa, AZ 85212; If arriving from Williams Field Road or South Power Road, take the second exit at the entrance roundabout (chamber will be located on the right). If arriving from South Sossaman Road, turn right on South Avery Street, right on East Innovation Way North, and left on South Sterling Avenue (chamber will be located on the right).

Chamber (labeled ALTCH) parking is located in lot #2. Please check in at the office inside the altitude chamber building upon arrival.

Airport Recommendation

If you are flying your PA-46 to this event, the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (KIWA) is adjacent to the University Campus. Gateway Aviation is the sole FBO on the airport. Cunningham Aviation at nearby Falcon Field (KFFZ) approx. 10 miles away and may offer more competitive pricing.

Attendees flying via commercial airlines may choose Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Alternatively, Allegiant airlines operates flights from select cities directly into Mesa Gateway Airport.

Cancellation Policy 

You may cancel, in writing, up to 30 days prior to the event date (by September 19, 2024) to receive a 90% refund. Cancellations received after this date forfeit the registration fee paid.

PMOPA incurs costs for an event, even if a registrant cancels. The closer to the event date that the registration is cancelled, the higher the costs incurred by PMOPA. Cancellation fees help offset those costs. PMOPA leadership may consider exceptions to this policy in limited cases of hardship (e.g., hospitalization, death in immediate family) although exceptions to this policy are not guaranteed to be granted.
