Caitlin will be teaching two sessions, one introductory and one advanced:

Saturday, November 2 | 10:30am–12:00pm

Introductory Session: Caitlin will provide a step-by-step approach to firmly comprehending and applying the essential fundamentals to proactively serve as an essential resource during all phases of flight including challenging and critical scenarios. Most importantly, the goal will be instilling confidence that pilots and non-pilots alike CAN be crew-members. Topics may include: assisting with the preflight inspection, proper loading of baggage and people, sterile cockpit concept, traffic watch, basic radio phraseology and how to listen effectively, aeromedical considerations, what constitutes an “emergency,” how to help in case of an emergency.

Sunday, November 3 | 10:00-11:30am

Advanced Session: Caitlin introduces the execution of instrument approach procedures utilizing the aircraft’s onboard equipment along with basic, disciplined aircraft control techniques. The objective will be to instill confidence that with a well-planned and rehearsed mindset, the use of standardized flight deck flows and aircraft control will yield a predictable and successful outcome in a variety of scenarios. Caitlin also will introduce PMOPA’s new Quick Reference Handbooks (QRHs) as a valuable safety tool, and advise how companions can assist the pilot flying diagnose and correct abnormal or emergency situations that may arise. This training will encourage one to assume progressively active roles on future flights thus enabling them to refine the skills previously acquired.
